Senior Wrestling Information (Grade 8-12)

SCHOOL  WRESTLING  (Grade 8 to 12)

Who This is the official home of School District 23 BC School Sports Wrestling.  We also welcome any grade 8-12 girl & boy who is eligible for BC School Sports and lives in Kelowna, West Kelowna or Lake Country that attends an independent school.
Seasons

SD 23 BC School Sports practices run from November 1, 2023 to March 14, 2024. 

Our teacher sponsor for School District 23 is Mike Griesbeck, a teacher at Kelowna Secondary School.

WE TAKE NEW STUDENTS AT ANY TIME.

COWA Senior club season starts after the BC School Sports practice season is over.

Practice Times & Schedules

SD 23 BC School Sports practices are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:15 PM to 6:15 PM.

Gym doors open at 4:00 PM.

Grade 8 & 9 students may attend only two practices a week but are encouraged to attend more.

Grade 10-12 students should try and attend all of practices.

BCSS Weight Classes (kgs)

Girls: 40 (34 min), 43, 47, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 90, 90+

Boys: 38 (34 min), 41, 45, 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 70, 74, 78, 84, 90, 110, 110+ (130 Max).  Detailed tournament schedule information can be found here.

Locations
SD 23 BC School Sports practices are held at Central School Gym located at 1825 Richter Street, Kelowna. Please enter the parking lot off of Dehart Avenue.  The gym is the grey building east of the school. 
COWA Senior Club practices are held at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu located at #110 – 1854 Kirschner Road, Kelowna.

Fees & Options

A $200 registration is to be paid on October 27, 2023 at Central School or for late comers before you step on the mat. Use of a wrestling uniform for the season is included in this fee.  

A second registration fee of $200 is due at the first practice you attend in 2024.

If you qualify for the BCSSWA Championships an additional registration fee of $200 will be required on February 13, 2024. In the past most schools cover the cost of the entry fee of the BCSS Wrestling  Provincial Championships.  Boys must finish in the top three in their weight class at the OVSAA Championships to go to BCSS Wrestling Provincials Championships.  Girls have to attend the OVSAA  Champions to go to the BCSSWA Provincial Championships.

The above fees include entry fee, transportation and accommodation for the tournaments listed in the schedule.

All above fees can be paid in three ways:

1)  Out of pocket by cash or cheque made out to COWA.

2) By applying to: Athletics 4 KidsKid Sport, or Jumpstart or talk to your child’s school athletic director.

3) By using fundraising credits.  Fundraising credits are obtained by working at fundraising events organized by the parents of the wrestlers.

Senior Club Fees

The fee is $10 a month.

Please fill in pages 1, 2 & 6 print a registration form , sign and hand in at the first practice you attend.
